Take a train



You can take Urban train and Suburban train by five steps.
    step1. Buy a ticket at station.
    step2. Touch the ticket to automatic ticket gate.
    step3. Go to the platform for your train.
    step4. Take your train.
    step5. Get off the train at your destination.

A prepaid IC card, Suica and PASMO are the standard for all lines in Tokyo 23 wards. SUICA is issued by JR East, PASMO is issued by other railway companies except JR Central. Both IC cards are valid for all railway lines and almost bus companies in Tokyo 23 wards, no expiration date, prepaid unlimited times.

You can get the IC card at almost station. The lowest price is 1000 JPY, include the insurance charge 500. You can charge (= prepay the fare again) to IC card by automated ticket vendor at all station in any timings. The followings are an example for using the IC card.
    1. Buy the Suica 1000 JPY at JR East station. *insurance 500, balance is +500
    2. Take Yamanote line train.
    3. Transfer to Tokyo Metro Marunouchi line.
    4. Transfer to SEIBU Ikebukuro line.
    5. Charge 1000 JPY to Suica again at SEIBU station. *insurance free, balance is +1000
    6. Take SEIBU bus.
    7. Take TOBU bus.
    8. Take TOBU Tojyo line train...
You can also get a regular ticket by automated ticket vendor at all station. regular ticket has magnetic stripes, so you can use automatic ticket gate.

step2. automatic ticket gate
Touch your IC card on automatic ticket gate, or slot-in a regular ticket. If the gate will not open, a station employee will makes an advice about your ticket. When the balance in your IC card is less than minimum fare, you have to charge your IC card by automatic ticket vendor.

step3. platform
Find an information board about your direction. Confirm the platform number, then go to suitable platform.

Find an information board about your train on the platform. Confirm the departure time of your train. Some platform equips automated door or fence for the safety of passengers. Do not lean against the automated door or fence, because there is some kind sensor for stop the train.

Confirm the direction of your train. Almost railway company makes announce about next stop and destination in the train. The station number will assist your travel.

If you transfer the line and exit from the station, fare will be adjust automatically.

step5. Get off
Get off your train and find an information board about exits on the platform. Go to the suitable exit from platform.

Touch your IC card to automatic ticket gate or slot-in a regular ticket. If the gate will not open, a station employee will makes an advice about your ticket. When the balance in your IC card is less than fare, charge again to your IC card by automatic ticket vendor or pay by cash.

    step1. Buy a regular ticket and express ticket at station.
    step2. Slot-in both ticket to automatic ticket gate.
    step3. Go to the platform for your train.
    step4. Take your train.
    step5. Get off the train at your destination.

A regular ticket and express ticket are the standard for Inter-city train and Resort train in Japan. Almost train has reserved seat and some train has only reserved seat.

You can get the tickets at office in the station or travel agencies. Many railway company offers discount ticket and pass.

Some regular ticket and express ticket have magnetic stripe on other side. Although almost tickets are not valid in automatic ticket gate. Please confirm the how to use to station employee.
